A big part of life and having a great quality of life is having friends and family. After the pandemic, it was easy to see that a lot of people were feeling deprived of those connections. Not being able to hug, hold hands or kiss those you were close with was and still can be a cause of sadness, depression and a lack of belonging. At Collaboration, we understand that in more ways than one, especially for our disability community. While some of our most vulnerable may be non-verbal, how many times have we been able to use our intuition to “tell” that someone needs a hug?
For us, establishing monthly programs and workshops consistently is something we pride ourselves in. Sibling Workshops or ‘Sibshops’ and our Caregiver Support groups are there to be a connection builder, a sound board and a safe space. It’s where we can support the supporter. It’s such a sometimes-thankless job that we hope our events can aid with. We are grateful and thankful to those who are brave enough to speak during these sessions. You never know who you could be helping.
